The Spaniard, born in Venezuela, turned professional in 2011 and is making her sixth Grand Slam appearance this fortnight.
Muguruza claimed a breakthrough tournament victory at the Hobart International in Australia in January by beating Klara Zakopalova 6-4 6-0 in the final.
The right-hander then made it to the fourth round at the Australian Open a few weeks later, beating former World No 1 Caroline Wozniacki in the third round.
