Follow summer tips in the rain

Try these tips, guaranteed to keep you looking and feeling good this season.u00a0Apply sunscreenBefore you pack up your sunscreen creams, listen to what a skin expert has to say on the subject. What we don't realise is that ultraviolet (UV) rays continue to penetrate the clouds and harm the skin, explains Dr Sangeeta Amladi, Head Medical Services, Kaya Skin Clinic. Given the humidity, use a light lotion-based sunscreen. Slathering waterproof sunscreen on your face, neck and upper arms is essential even on rainy days. For oily skin, a sunblock with SPF 15 should do. Wash and dry feet thoroughly to prevent fungal infectionsWear open shoesFlip-flops rule both in sunny days and during rains. Wearing open sandals allows feet to dry faster and prevents chances of fungal infections. Make sure to wipe feet, especially between the toes, since moisture tends to accumulate there, says Dr Amladi. If you must wear closed shoes, apply talcum powder before putting on socks. Though it might seem tedious, a home pedicure routine (soak feet in warm shampooed water for 15 to 20 minutes, clean feet with a scrubber, cut nails short and moisturise) works wonders. Shampoo every alternate daySweaty days might be behind us, but with the moisture getting replaced with water, and that too dirty water, make sure you shampoo (preferably use one with sunscreen) and condition your hair regularly. Humidity in the rains increases chances of developing infection and a bad bout of dandruff. Dr Amladi's home remedy for dandruff: rub a little curd in hair at least 15 minutes before a shampoo. Use a volume-enhancing shampoo to add the missing bounce. Do not tie wet hair and avoid using too many styling products.
