In a bid to curb the presence of agents in the zonal offices of the civil and food supply department, the assistant commissioner of divisional food and supply office, Prakash Kadam sent a letter to district collector Saurabh Rao yesterday, requesting him to grant permission to install CCTV cameras in the eight zonal offices of the district. Four of these offices are in Pune city.
“It was just a suggestion and accepting it or not is entirely the district collector’s prerogative,” said Kadam. He added that the decision of sending the letter was taken after the department found itself flooded with complaints against the agents, who allegedly harass the people who visit the zonal offices.
“Along with the agent problem, women employees who work in the zonal offices complain of misbehaviour on the visitors’ part. We made the request for cameras keeping both these issues in mind,” said Kadam.
