Rampur (Uttar Pradesh): Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan is famous for making statements that inevitably stir controversy.
On Friday, the Uttar Pradesh Minority Welfare and Urban Development Minister made headlines again with yet another foot-in-mouth statement. This time he blamed the excessive use of mobile phones and easy access to paedophile content for the rise in child rapes.

“It is very shameful that a 2.5-year-old child is being raped and children are being burnt. Any punishment is less for a crime like rape, but we need to think what is the truth behind the rape of a 2.5-year-old. The truth is this mobile (phone), the content that you get to see on this for free,” Khan told ANI.
His statement comes after last week saw two minor girls, one aged two-and-a-half, and the other aged five, being gang-raped in separate incidents in Delhi.
“Even in villages the kids in their teens get to see this dirt. We have come to know that there are films which show bad things done to children aged 2 to 5 years. Seeing all this our entire young generation is committing crimes, this raises a big question,” he added.
Khan had on Thursday said that Muslims “are not the citizens of democratic India, but the victims of a saffron India.”
He had also said that the Dadri lynching incident was aimed at Muslims.
Akhlaq, was beaten to death by an angry mob on September 28 in Dadri, while his son Danish was injured seriously after announcements were made from a nearby temple that the family had consumed beef.

Comparing Minister of State for External Affairs General (Retd.) VK Singh's ‘dog’ analogy to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s controversial ‘puppy’ remark that he had made during the run-up to the general elections in 2013, Azam Khan on Friday said that he was not surprised by the statement as it was the culture rampant in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“I don’t see anything wrong in what he has said. The Prime Minister had used the word ‘puppy’ and now the puppy has become a fully grown dog. This is the culture of the BJP and the RSS and it is terribly hurting the nation,” Khan told ANI here.
“You can see the evil taking root in Punjab, then Dadri and then the Dalits, and now it is seeping across the nation,” Khan added.
He asserted that in the name of ‘beef’ the second biggest majority in the nation was being persecuted and that the Muslim community was fearful of what was to come next.
Prime Minister Modi in his term as Gujarat’s chief minister had used a puppy analogy while referring to the deaths in his state in the 2002 riots that triggered a political storm and drew him major criticism.
"Even If I am in the back seat of a car and a puppy (kutte ka bachcha) comes under the wheels, isn't it painful? It is. Whether I am a chief minister or not, I am a human being -- I will be sad if something bad happens anywhere.” Modi had said in an interview to a news agency.
