Rakhee Grover Jain and her line of cushions (Rs 750 onwards)

Pooja Hiremath's handbag line for Oasisu00a0 (Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,000)

German national Martinaa New can honestly call the whole world her home. As she runs her fingers over one of her favourite creations, a chain with an assortment of religious symbols, she says, "What I love about India is that myriad groups coexist peacefully." Demonstrating the multifunctional aspect of her designs (Rs 2000 to Rs 26,000), she glides a bulky chain with semi-precious stones over her hip, and then, removing it tried winding it around her neck, effortlessly transforming the belt into a choker. "Use it like a long necklace or bind it around your wrist like a bracelet," she suggests, drawing your attention to the mini keychain-type hook on each pendant which makes it easy to detach. "If you don't like the policy of a political party, you can remove their symbol in protest," Martinaa jests, showing us a necklace that carries a Congress party hand, the JKNPP's bicycle, the CPI (M) hammer and sickle. "I design my pieces in 3D on the computer, and often, I craft them personally too."

Tunics by Shalini Shahani (Rs 2,300 to Rs 5,000)

Equally impressive are designer Shalini Shahani's line of embroidered, slim-line dresses (Rs 2,300 to Rs 5,000) which she says "a friend wore to a beach wedding over a churidar, and then, simply slipped the churidar off to sport a more Western look at a yacht party that followed."

Candlestands from Aesthetics by Dipti and Khyati Munim

Pooja Hiremath's reasonably-priced-yet-exclusive handbags (Rs 1500 to Rs 3000) and Rakhee Grover Jain's regal cushions (Rs 750 onwards) are other goodies to look out for.

Chinese-take-away-box-shaped trinket holders by Bhavna Faizullabhoy foru00a0 Magnolia Designs (Rs 75 each)

Proceeds from Design One will support the Apne Aap Women's Collective, a group that strives to help women in prostitution and offer their children an alternate life. Perhaps subconsciously, the spirit of change seems to have seeped into the very heart of the exhibition with almost every stall offering a customisation service.

At graphic designer Bhavna Faizullabhoy's Magnolia Designs, you can pick up ready-to-use monogrammed cards or place orders for birth announcements. We loved her gorgeous Chinese-take-away-box-shaped trinket holders (Rs 75 each). Dipti and Khyati Munim undertake furniture-customisation, though Khyati's also excited about their display of unique batik-polished wooden furniture.

The balloon bouquets and gift-packaging by Anupama Kasera, Swati Lath and Rashmi Gupta are up next. "For a casino party, we could arrange slot-machine balloons and Ace and King balloons," Anupama shares (bouquets: Rs 350, plus delivery).

Design One opens on September 1.
From 4 pm to 8 pm.
On September 2 from 10 am to 8 pm.u00a0
