It's the beginning of the new year and we're bored of even the most inventive playlists on our iPods. What better time to take a peek at what we have to look forward to in 2009. Here's a sneaky look to what some of the country's DJ's have to say of the musical buzz this year.
As after-dark action steps into yet another year, Swati Kumari asks the country's favourite DJs to forecast the musical buzz you can look forward to; Bollywood tunes lead the pack.

There'll be many genres in the limelight u2014 Indian classical, jazz, rock, electronica u2014 since there's a wide audience with diverse tastes. The music industry is organised and quick in all these, since our country is culturally very rich. I basically deal with electronica, and can say that it's going to gain more recognition everywhere, and be a hit with party prowlers. There's a lot of competition, but it's all healthy.
DJ Alia
House music is gaining popularity, apart from Bollywood music, which is in demand especially in the Delhi circuit. Fusion and rock will also be on an all time high.
DJ Ashrafi
Bollywood scores will be a hit for sure. Last year, we saw songs like Desi Girl gaining popularity. The music of Chandni Chowk To China and Luck By Chance are also rushing up their way on the charts. Other genres like Hip-hop and electronica will always be in the minority.
DJ Lil'B
Bollywood will be a big time hit. There are many good tracks from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Chandni Chowk..., and I hope the trend continues. House will also be popular among party hoppers. Hip-hop won't be happening, since either the vocals are very soft, or the beats too high to appeal.
DJ Mohit
Bollywood is definitely going to be big. As SRK's Marjani from Billo Barbar is already on the charts, we hope to see more of it this year. House and lounge music is popular till 12, but post that, people get high and dance on Filmi music which is in our blood.
DJ Gaurav
The scene is changing very fast. Hip-hop and Sufi have been popular since 2006, and will still be high this year. Also, a fusion of qawwali and commercial music will take off. Experimental old music will also be a prominent highlight. Good commercial music also has good scope.
DJ Rummy
If Bollywood continues to churn out music the kind of music it has been giving, it will surely hold fort. House and Techno will also be looked out for. Punjabi music, on the other hand, will have a no-show year.
DJ Barkha
Bollywood music has always been the top choice for party animals. People normally don't revert to new music; they need some time to understand it. Retro and electronia will also make their mark.
DJ Sumit
It's difficult to predict the music scene. But I think Bollywood music numbers like Jugaad's Kisse Awaz Doon will be appreciated. Punk and House music have also started growing on us.
DJ Symbol
Bollywood music will strike like it did last year. Hip-hop will also be big, just as UK-Punjabi remixes will attain more popularity.
