Foreign currency worth about Rs 1.17 crore was on Tuesday seized from two Dubai-bound passengers at nearby Karipur International Airport, officials said

Kozhikode: Foreign currency worth about Rs 1.17 crore was today seized from two Dubai-bound passengers at nearby Karipur International Airport, officials said.


Directorate of Revenue Intelligence sleuths seized currency of United Arabic Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, worth Rs 64,18,500 concealed inside rice and rice flakes of the baggage of Sajeer (25) of Koduvally, who was about to board a flight for Dubai at 12.25 AM, Intelligence Officer, DRI-Calicut, K Salil said.


Similarly, currency worth Rs 52,74,025 of the same countries was recovered from the pockets of two trousers kept inside the backpack of a second passenger, Muhammed Shareef (25) of Thamarassery, he said. They are being questioned.
