Thane: Four members of a family, including a toddler, were found in an unconscious state with burn injuries, inside their house in the wee hours today at Ambarnath township in the district, police said.

Around 3 AM, locals saw smoke coming out of the house of 35-year-old Sanjay Choudhary in Buvapada colony, Thane police official Gajanan Kabdule said.

According to police, it may be that Sanjay allegedly attempted suicide and tried to kill his family members.

"As the house door was locked, the locals including the neighbours broke it and entered the house. They found four persons - Sanjay, his wife Madhavi (32) and their children Rani (8) and Anuj (1) - lying on the floor in an unconscious state with burn injuries," he said. They were rushed to Central Hospital at Ulhasnagar and later shifted to the JJ Hospital in Mumbai and are battling for life, he added.

Police officials said Sanjay, who hailed from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh came here some four months back and resided with his family at a 'chawl' (housing colony) in Buvapada locality. He worked with a garment factory in the Ambarnath Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation area.

No case has been registered in this regard till now and investigations are underway, police said.
