Four rob bizman of Rs 50 lakh, arrested

Crime Branch officers arrested a group of four for robbing a businessman, at his office, of over Rs 50 lakh on Monday

The accused were identified as Mayur Pasha Shaikh (32) alias Masood, Shantiprasad Veniprasad Yadav (32), Mustaqin Jamil Khan (32) and Vivekanand Nayak (32) alias Ashok.


The crime
Police officials said the group barged into the office of Shreekant Vasudev Raut (47), located on the fourth floor of Yogeshwar Building on Qazi Sayyed Street in Masjid Bunder, and threatened Raut and his staff with a chopper. They then tied Raut and his employees with a rope and escaped with Rs 50 lakh and a cellphone worth Rs 12,000. The robbery occurred on March 23.


Soon after the incident, Raut registered a complaint at the Pydhonie police station. The case was later transferred to the Crime Branch Unit 2. Based on the tip-off given by their informers, the officials discovered about the involvement of the quartet in the crime. All four were arrested from different places Dhanmill Naka, Lower Parel, Antop Hill and Masjid Bunder in the city.

“The accused are footpath dwellers and some of them worked as contractual labourers. They were arrested and handed over to the officials of the Pydhonie police station, where the case was registered,” an official from the Crime Branch Unit 2 said.

All four were booked under section, 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 452 (house trespass) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act.

Senior Police Inspector Nishikant Patil of Crime Branch Unit 2 said, “The four accused were handed over to the officials of Pydhonie police station. Now they will investigate the case further. While Yadav acted as the group’s informer, the remaining three had are history-sheeters.”u00a0
