Four-year-old girl found abandoned, tests prove rape

The police are on the lookout for an unidentified man for kidnapping and raping a four-year-old girl in Kandivli on Monday night. According to the police, the girl went missing after she stepped outside to play while her family was watching television.

A passer-by at Malvani found her after a few hours. The victim has been admitted to Nair hospital where her condition is said to be stable. The Kandivli police said the victim is a resident of Laljipada, a slum area on Link Road, Kandivli(West). She was playing outside her house around 11.30 pm. When she did not return home after 20 minutes, her mother went out to look for her. Realising that something was amiss, she started searching for her along with her brother-in-law, an auto driver.

When the victim could not be traced, her mother informed her husband, also an auto driver. He returned from work and looked for her till 1.30 am. Finally, he registered a missing person’s complaint at Kandivli police station at 3 am. Even as the police was taking his statement they got a message that a four-year-old girl was found abandoned and unconscious at Malvani around 3.15 am.

A passerby had informed the police control room about the girl. The father of the girl rushed to Malvani along with the police and brought back his daughter after recognising her. She was sent to Nagpada hospital and the medical report confirmed rape. Sudhakar Shinde, an officer at Kandivli police station, said, “We are yet to record the victim’s statement as she is in a state of shock.”

Jaywant Hargude, assistant commissioner (Malvani Division), confirmed the incident and said that a special team has been formed to nab the culprit. “My daughter is shattered and scared. The rapist must be caught and the harshest punishment should be meted out to him so that such a thing never happens,” said the distraught victim’s father.

He added, “I was at Powai with a passenger when my wife informed me that our daughter was missing. My daughter told me at the hospital that a man around 30 years of age raped her. She also said she could identify the rapist.” The police questioned the family members as part of the investigation and registered a case against an unknown person under section 376 (rape), and 363(kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code.

22-yr-old arrested for raping 7-yr-old
Kurar police arrested a 22-year-old neighbour on Monday for raping a 7-year-old girl. Police said that accused and the victim are neighbours from Kurar village at Malad (East). The incident occurred a week ago but a complaint was registered only on Monday.

According to Kurar police, the accused Aditya Ruke alias Babla went to the victim’s house on May 1 around 7.30 am when she was alone. Aditya locked the door from inside and raped her repeatedly. When her mother came home she found her daughter crying.

The victim told her mother what had happened but a complaint was not lodged as the family was scared of the consequences. Police said the victim’s father returned from Pune on Monday and registered a complaint at Kurar police station.
