Historian Gyan Prakash's book 'Mumbai Fables' forms the basis for the movie. Prakash has also worked on the script of the movie. Ranbir and Anushka, who have been paired together for the first time, play lovers whose lives intermingle with the evolution of the city of Bombay, through the 50s to early 70s. "'Bombay Velvet' is my first film in a trilogy about Bombay, before it became a Metropolis.

It's a story that has always fascinated me and we have been developing it for about four years, and I am very excited that now its fully ready and we begin shoot this year," Kashyap, who is currently at Cannes Film Festival, said in a statement here. Phantom Films' Vikas said 'Bombay Velvet' was an "intricately researched and beautifully fictionalised" film.

"We are looking forward to working together with Fox Star to create a phenomenal cinematic experience of this story for the big screen," Bahl added. Amit Trivedi is composing the music of the film, which will be reminiscent of the golden sound of '60s.

Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios, India said, "We are delighted to partner with Anurag on his next directorial venture Bombay Velvet. One of the best storytellers we have today, Anurag will bring alive Bombay in its original glory."u00a0
