Paris: Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga registered a 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 win over Jurgen Melzer to enter the third round of the French Open yesterday. The World No 13 took an hour and 46 minutes to beat the Austrian.

Meanwhile, Latvian 18th seed Ernests Gulbis eased past Argentine qualifier Facundo Bagnis 6-2, 7-5, 6-0 and will next face Czech veteran Radek Stepanek who knocked out Russian 15th seed Mikhail Youzhny 6-0, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
