Fulham deserved to win, says Everton coach Moyes

Fulham winger Damien Duff capped his sides impressive fightback with a superb strike to clinch a 2-1 win over Everton yesterday.

Roy Hodgsons side trailed to a first half header from Australia midfielder Tim Cahill at Craven Cottage, but Paul Konchesky levelled after the break with a deflected effort before former Newcastle winger Duff hit his first Fulham goal with 11 minutes remaining.

Out of danger
Fulham's win lifted the London club out of the relegation zone, but Everton remain in the bottom three after their third defeat in four games equalling their worst start to a season under boss David Moyes.

"We showed a bit more courage in the second half, it was less a war of attrition and we scored two goals to turn the game around. We have beaten a good Everton team," Hodgson said.

"Damien is a goalscorer and it's nice to have players like him and Clint Dempsey and Simon Davies who can support Andrew Johnson up front."

Moyes added: "The first half was quite tight, we might have shaded it a bit but credit to Fulham they did much better in the second half.

"They were chasing a goal but we were poor and allowed them the initiative.

"We couldn't do an awful lot about the deflection but what was disappointing was the free-kick that we gave away."

In an another game, Aston Villa beat Birmigham 1-0.
