The band will consist of Monte Carlo-based John McLaughlin (Jazz guitarist), Zakir Hussain (Tabla), U Shrinivas (Mandolin), Shankar Mahadevan (Vocals) and V Selvaganesh (Kanjeera).

The name Remember Shakti is derived from John McLaughlin's acoustic Indian fusion band Shakti, which was active in the 1970s.

The Remember Shakti tour takes place every alternate year but this year the tour is back after a hiatus of six years.

Commenting on the experience of performing with John McLaughlin, Ustad Zakir Hussain says, "Performing with John is like playing with an Indian musician.

He has studied Indian Classical music and figured out how we work, how we think and what our improvising techniques are.

I have also had the good fortune of studying and understanding the Western ways of musical thinking be it Jazz, Pop or Rock.

What's fabulous is that my connection with John hasn't changed. I never feel like I am working with someone strange from a different tradition and he doesn't feel that way either."
