India opener Gautam Gambhir, who returned to Delhi on Day Four of the first Test against England following his grandmother’s death, was not on the field on the final day. Ajinkya Rahane did duty for Gambhir.

“Gambhir is on his way back,” said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) media manager, Vinod Deshpande early in the day. However, sources revealed that the Delhi opener is scheduled to join the Mumbai Test squad on Wednesday.
