Akeel and Riyaz were produced in the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court for their involvement in a shootout case registered at the DN Nagar police station. While Akeel was out on bail, Riyaz was still in police custody.

On the day when both were produced in the court, Riyaz headbutted Akeel, breaking his nose while he was being escorted back to the jail after the hearing. Sources said Riyaz was miffed with Akeel for not helping him seek bail.

A case was registered against Riyaz at the N M Joshi Marg police station under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506-II (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

Inspector Santosh Kamle from N M Joshi Marg police station said, “Riyaz and Akeel had a hearing in MCOCA court, in connection with a shootout case registered at the DN Nagar police station. Riyaz attacked Akeel outside the court while being escorted back to the jail.”
