To say Sourav Ganguly is a bitter man would be an understatement. The former India captain is disgusted with the manner in which he has been treated by franchises of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Ganguly, who went unsold at January's IPL player auction, is contemplating retiring from all forms of cricket just 48 after the Governing Council ruled out the possibility of his backdoor entry to play in the fourth season of the Twenty20 tournament in April. He retired from Tests and ODIs in 2008.

"I am surprised that things can go down tou00a0 a level that a cricketer cannot play in his own country for no fault of his," rued Ganguly.

There were reports yesterday about Ganguly retiring from all forms of the game (he continued to be part of Bengal's Ranji Trophy team to get in shape for the IPL).

"In the current scenario, there's no point in playing anymore. I am quitting cricket for good if no IPL team picks me. I will continue playing for Bengal and IPL if given an opportunity. There's no point in carrying on otherwise," he said yesterday afternoon.

However, Ganguly shrugged off such talk when he landed in Kolkata from Delhi where he had been for a television interview. The hurt of not being picked by any of the 10 franchises in the player auction before Kochi showed interest, still stays.

Ganguly is slated for commentary during the forthcoming World Cup and a few TV shows. However, he will try to face a new challenge called cricket administration. It is learnt that he will begin his preparations to contest the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) elections that will pave the way for him to enter BCCI in years to come.
