West Indies opener Chris Gayle must fire again for RCB to get back on track

Gayle must fire again for RCB to get back on track

Following their 47-run loss against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens on Saturday, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will try and get back to winning ways when they take on Kings XI Punjab, who are languishing at the eighth spot in the Indian Premier League-V (IPL-V).

RCB will have to pull up their socks against a side which hasn’t fired as an unit. With captain Adam Gilchrist not in form, much depends on another Aussie batsman — David Hussey and all-rounder Azhar Mahmood to take the onus on themselves.

But the hosts can hope to see another fiery start from West Indian opener Chris Gayle. The West Indian hit 86 off 58 deliveries against KKR. u00a0Others like AB de Villiers and Tillakaratne Dilshan are capable of upsetting Kings XI Punjab’s plans. RCB also have good mix of domestic players.

India batsman Virat Kohli apart, they have Saurabh Tiwary, Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara in their ranks. But unfortunately, all of them failed to live up to the expectations. Kohli has scored 147 runs from eight matches.

In the bowling department too, RCB hasn’t done well with Vinay Kumar and Harshal Patel giving away too many runs. Though Zaheer Khan has bowled well in patches, their main problem has been to fit in Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan with Daniel Vettori being the skipper.

Vettori’s wishlist
>> He gets back to winning ways
>> Gilchrist remains out of the side
>> Zaheer Khan bowls well
>> Mahmood fires with bat and ball
>> Appanna comes good again

Gilchrist’s wishlist
>> He comes back with a bang
>> Openers to fire
>> Gayle gets out cheaply
>> Zaheer Khan has a bad day
>> Kohli remains to be a flopu00a0
