Meanwhile, Mallika Sherawat's ambitious plans for her performance went for a toss when Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the ruler of Dubai, called off the Gulf state's opulent, multimillion-pound New Year's Eve celebrations due to the violence in Gaza, Palestine.

The festivities were cancelled late Wednesday after noon (December 31) seven hours before Mallika was due to perform! Apparently, Mallika had charged almost a crore for her performance.

According to Sheikh Mohammed's order, Dubai would mark the New Year with a sombre tone as a token of solidarity with the Palestinian people in general and Gaza Strip in particular, which is currently under the barrage of Israeli's military fire. The Sheikh felt that all public New Year's celebrations should be stopped.

They left for Dubai on Tuesday night but that very night, all outdoor events to celebrate the New Year in Dubai, including fireworks and loud music were banned, following a decision by Sheikh Mohammed to cancel all events. All New Year celebrations were cancelled while no fireworks or outdoor music were allowed.
