Geoffrey Boycott gives commentary tips to Sourav Ganguly

Former England opener Geoffrey Boycott yesterday had a simple advise to Sourav Ganguly if he wished to excel in the role of commentator: Read.

Boycott, a great admirer of Ganguly's graceful batting style, told the India's most winning captain that he should be familiar with the history of the game so as to hold his own in front of the audience.

"I must tell you as an elderly person that you should keep reading, because the juice of the game is there in the literature. You must know the history of the game as the listeners would expect you to be knowledgeable about the game."

The veteran of 108 Tests also had a subtle message for the 'Prince of Kolkata' who failed to attract any bid in the recent IPL auction.

"I have never touched the bat since the day I retired. I do not want to make myself a laughing-stock in front of my admirers," he said.

"They have a picture about you, about somebody they adore. If you cannot bat properly now, that image will get shattered. So, I have never batted even in a charity match."

Boycott also praised Andrew Strauss' men following their near successful chase of the Indian target of 339 at the M Chinnaswamy stadium here on Sunday.

"This England team is a different one. They are always hungry. If you follow their body language, it is very, very positive, and full of energy," he said.

"Andy Flower and the rest of the support staff have totally changed the atmosphere of the dressing room. England cricket team is now a family. I am sure they will do well."
