Here's a piece of news that will warm the hearts of many women. American actor Richard Gere has agreed to do director Nila Madhab Panda's next film on world food insecurity. The Pretty Woman star will play a foreigner in the film, who gets involved in the socio-political set up of a village. CS gives you some trivia on the actor: 

>> The 62- year- old Gere first came into prominence with his role in American Gigolo that made him a sex symbol. Later, he went on to star in films like An Officer and a Gentleman, Pretty Woman, Primal Fear and Chicago, for which he won a Golden Globe.

>> Gere is a descendent of the Mayflower Pilgrims. The Pilgrims were Christians who separated from the Church of England in the 16th, 17th and 18th century. As a child, Gere excelled in gymnastics and music. 

>> An accomplished pianist and music writer; he composed and performed the piano solo featured in Pretty Woman.

>> Gere is one of the few actors to be nominated on various occasions for the Golden Globe Award, but never for an Academy Award.

>> He was married to supermodel Cindy Crawford from 1991 to 1995. In 2002, he married Carey Lowell. They have a son, Homer James Jigme Gere, who was born in 2000 and is named after Gere's father.

>> Gere is famous for his pro-Tibet stance. His interest in Buddhism began in 1978 when he travelled to Nepal with the Brazilian painter Sylvia Martins. 

>> He was the first man to appear on the cover of Vogue magazine with then-wife Cindy Crawford.
