THE German Bakery, once it stands on its feet again, will sport a contemporary look.
Owner Smita Kharose said that the low tablesu00a0-- characteristic of the popular Koregaon Park joint before its destruction in the February 13 blastu00a0-- will be replaced with trendy furniture in keeping with the times.
The eatery is set to reopen in the first week of August.

To retain the flavour of the place, Kharose said they would try to stick to the old menu. So masala chai and the popular cakes and other food items may still be on the menu, apart from some new stuff.
The extended bakery will not be functional any more, and instead it will see its reopening on the first floor, where the Zen restaurant used to be.

Kharose said the bakery would be reopened after a pooja. "The bakery will reopen in 1,000 square feet on the first floor of the complex," said Kharose.

She refused to divulge the name of the architect designing the new look for the joint.
"The look now will definitely be trendier and different from the original look. Our draw was the menu, and we will stick to it," said Kharose. "But the look will definitely surprise our patrons."

Sources reveal that the architect who has been roped in has expertise in designing restaurants across the city and has been asked to keep a low profile.

Last, but not the least, the new place will also have all security gadgets in place.
Kharose added that the damage to the bakery was close to Rs 25 lakh and she did not get any compensation from any quarter. She said the funds for the rebuilding had been arranged with bank loans.

Ripped apart
ON February 13, a blast ripped through the German Bakery and destroyed it. The death toll was 17, with many more injured. The investigation in the terror case is still on.
