Prepping for a monsoon trek, the right way is a must as the outdoors are a haven for all kinds of unseen surprises, including blood-sucking leeches and mosquitoes.

We've made things easier with this all-round check list, from what to wear to what to carry so you aren't left soaking in misery, trailing behind, missing out on the sights and sounds because of a few rookie mistakes. Get, set, trek!

Your ultimate Monsoon gear checklist

Wear lightweight track pants / tights that dry quickly or loose comfortable trousers; choose trousers made of lighter, stretchable fabric. Avoid jeans.
Always carry a pair of light weight shorts or capris.
Wear a loose-fitting, full sleeved shirt / T-shirt of fabric that can breathe without retain ing liquids. Wearing thin hosiery fabrics vests or slips under your shirt / T-shirt is recommended. Carry a spare shirt / T-shirt.
Wear trekking shoes with a good grip. Avoid high-heeled footwear or those with very thick soft rubber soles.
Carry spare floaters, slippers, or light canvas shoes.
Carry a pair of spare socks.
Best rain wear for monsoon treks is a poncho. If you do not have one, a raincoat should suffice.

Do the Monsoon wrap
While on a monsoon trek, a poncho is your best bet to keep you dry as it does not restrict movement and covers you and your belongings, from head to toe.u00a0
For: Rs 995 for a black poncho, Rs 500 for a navy blue poncho
Nylong and synthetic fabric T-shirts are recommended as they dry faster and ensure you don't catch the chills.

Have a backpack-happy trek
Make sure you select waterproof bags that keep your clothes dry even during the heaviest of downpours. Apart from regular waterproof backpacks, dry sacks are ideal as they keep your belongings dry and locked from moisture. They are sturdy and dirt and muck resistant. If you already have a backpack, purchase a rain cover for your bag.
For: Rs 500 for a Dry Sack, Rs 995 for a Waterproof Bag,
Rs 495 and Rs 450 onwards, for a Rain Cover.

Walk the Mile
Give room for your feet. Get waterproof shoes that are specially recommended for trekking. If you are one of those people prone to getting shoe bites, we recommend you buy a pair of synthetic socks that dry easily. A pair of bug socks comes in handy during the rains. Meant to be worn over your socks, its sheer mesh net enfolds the bottoms of your pant and secures it tightly to keep the bugs away.
For: Shoes for Rs 3,500, Bug Socks for Rs 400 and Socks for Rs 500 onwards
AT: Wildcraft and Avi Industries
