Met dept expects dip in temp in January owing to northerly winds
Last year December 31 experienced the coolest winds of the season and this New Year the weather department has predicted a dip in temperature once again.
R V Sharma, deputy director-general of meteorology department, said that the temperature that shot up suddenly mid-December would once again fall from January 1.
The temperature is expected to fall once again in January
"Mumbai has already observed the coolest day of the season when the temperature recorded 13.6 degree Celsius in December.
However, the New Year will bring in some relief as the temperature which saw a gradual increase in last one week, will observe a drop again from January 1."
MET expects minimum temperature to drop even further in the coming days. Sharma said that the chill would last till the cold wave from the North continues to hit the city.
"The temperature will fall further by one or two degree in the coming days.

This phenomenon depends on the northerly winds that cool the Western coast. When the wind is strong, there is a nip in Mumbai's air," said Sharma.
