A senior police official said the deceased, identified as Kulveer Singh Punihani, was the owner of the 4-star Park Premier hotel of Gurgaon. The deceased also used to deal in other businesses. The official said a family feud may have triggered the incident. "Punihani used to deal in leather garments and he also had three hotels in Delhi and NCR area. Punihani had a dispute with his brothers. On Wednesday at around 10 am after having breakfast, Punihani went to his room and shot himself. He was rushed to AIIMS trauma centre where he was declared brought dead by doctors," said a police official.

The .32 mm pistol that he used to commit suicide has been confiscated by the police. A suicide note has also been recovered. Police said that in his suicide note that was found from the spot, the deceased has indicated that he was in depression for quite a long time due to family dispute. According to reports, his wife found him lying in a pool of blood inside his bedroom and made a call to PCR. The deceased shot himself on his temple from point blank range. He is survived by his wife and three daughters. Two of them are living abroad in US and UK while his third daughter resides with him. Punihani had been living in the area for the last 25 years. "He held no one responsible," said the police official.

Police have taken the statement of the family members of the deceased. "He was a well known businessman in Delhi and a very good human being. He had a dispute with his three brothers and was in depression and this might be the reason that he took this extreme step," said his cousin, who did not wish to reveal his name.
"Police is trying to ascertain the reason behind his extreme step. Police will take the statement of his three brothers to know what the family feud was that provoked him to commit suicide," said a police official on the condition of anonymity.
