Go beyond Argentine tango

Expect a heady mix of Jazz, Tango, Cante Jondo and Groovy Blues at Argentinian percussionist Minino Garay's gig tonight

If you thought Argentine music is only restricted to Tango, then tonight's performance at Blue frog will be a real eye-opener. Percussionist Minino Garay'su00a0music goes far beyond Tango and brings in African indigenous touches, plus a strong Parisian and Jazzy culture.

Minino has trained in popular dance forms: Milonga, Chacarera, Candombl ufffd of Uruguay and Cumbia of Colombia and he brings the rhythms of these dance forms into his music. He explores new lands with a strong energy, and great melodies -- Modern and ancestral, urban and Andean, Indian and Black, Chacarera and Jazz.

u00a0While on his trip to Mumbai, Minino workshopped with children from theu00a0 ragpicker community in Dharavi at the Maharashtra Nature Park. The idea was to get kids to create percussion instruments out of recycled materials (cans, bottles, etc.), teach them basic rhythms and create a Batucada -- a substyle of Samba and an African influenced Brazilian percussive style.

Don't miss tonight's gig that will see Minino on drum and cajon, Pajaro Canzani on guitar, Bobby Rangell on saxophone and flute, Carlos "el Tero" Buschini on bass.

On Tonight, 10 pm onwards at Blue Frog, Mathuradas Mills Compound, Tulsi Pipe Road, Lower Parel.
