If you have always mourned the lack of decent saganaki and gyros in the city, you’re likely not alone. But, now you can rejoice because Thalassa, the wildly popular Goan seaside haunt, is finally here.

Located off Carter Road in Khar (W), the space will transport you straight to Greece with its white and turquoise décor, terrazzo flooring, rustic wooden furniture and traditional music.

“I am looking forward to bringing Thalassa to Mumbai. It’s a very cosmopolitan city when it comes to cuisines, but I always felt it was missing Greek food. That’s why I wanted to come here,” says Mariketty Grana, the owner and head chef of Thalassa, who has the ability to make diners feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside.

The menu, of course, will focus on fresh ingredients. “I’m happy about having access to some lovely, fresh seafood. I’m very excited about cooking with octopus, especially,” she says, adding that she will now be dividing her time between Goa and Mumbai.

We had first heard news about the new outlet back in September, but incessant rains kept delaying the launch. Thalassa opens its doors to visitors tomorrow, and will be serving everything we’ve fallen in love with, whether it was in Goa, or when it popped up at Olive Bar & Kitchen in Mahalaxmi back in September 2013.

Grana says, “It has been 10 years since we opened our doors in Goa; life has come full circle. Nothing makes me happier than watching people connect over good food and wine, and reliving old memories while creating new ones. Prepare to be fed, Mumbai. Mama’s coming to town with her big, bad grill.”

In true Greek fashion, it’s time to break some plates!
