Every year, amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, a leading non-profit organisation dedicated to support AIDS research, HIV prevention, treatment education, and advocacy of AIDS-related public policy since 1985, organises a gala during the Cannes International Film Festival.
The idea is to spread awareness about the condition through music, films and fashion. This year, among designer brands including Christian Dior, Fendi, Gucci, Givenchy, Michael Kors, Lanvin and Ralph Lauren; Indian designer Tarun Tahiliani will showcase two of his designs at the The Ultimate Gold Collection Fashion Show, which is a part of the event.
“I’m really glad, there is a bit of pressure but it feels good. I wanted to put out something that is good and gets appreciated because these are platforms where perceptions can be influenced and we can tell the world what Indian designers can create,” says Tahiliani.
All participating designers will showcase two garments each. “Since the theme is gold, there is extensive use of the colour in both my garments. The womenswear is gold in georgette. It’s a saree gown with a lot of layers and drapes. It’s one piece and even the jewellery that will go with it is very beautiful gold jewellery with flower motifs. For the menswear design, I’ve created a malka jacket with trousers,” informs the designer.
Forty top models will participate in the runway presentation of one-of-a-kind gold looks, which will also feature a range of gold jewellery from emerging and established designers. The fashion show will be streamed live exclusively on LoveGold.com on May 23.
