Good news Mumbai! Today's auto-taxi strike called off!

In a major relief to lakhs of Mumbaikars, the small time union Jai Bhagvan Taxi and Rickshaw Sanghatana (JBTRS) suspended its proposed indefinite strike of auto rickshaws and taxis which was supposed to take place on July 26.


The union is from Navi Mumbai and their drivers and cabs operations extend till Western Maharashra region,


The protest was against the mobile app based aggregators like Ola and Uber.


Mumbai has around 42,000 black and yellow taxis and over 1.04 lakh auto rickshaws. The union leader Bala Sanap met Chief Minister Devendera Fadanvis, who assured about bringing new rules and regulations for app based aggregators which is when the union announced to suspend the strike until next 10 days.

"The Chief minister has assured to introduce the policy for regulating app based taxis within a week. Therefore we have decided to suspend and postpone our agitation for 10 days," said Sanap, adding that if the government failed to take decision before August 5, they will announce next date of their infinite 'Chakka Jam' agitation.

There is lot of anger among the cabbies about Ola and Uber, since their business is badly affected due to mobile aggregator service. Meanwhile the Transport department had already issued notification whereby private buses and vehicles could be used to ferry people if in case there was a strike.
