Its district includes the sanatorium of Dalhousie mountain which stands 7,687 feet above sea-level. It had played host to the coronation of Mughal Emperor Akbar. But Gurdaspur resident Gurpreet Singh Gill is in Mumbai to make sure the town gathers fame known for its parathas.

"I opened shop just a few months ago, and am doing good business already. Everyone in Mumbai loves Punjabi food," says the proprietor of a hole-in-the-wall eatery Lucky Da Paratha, which he runs with wife Amarjeet Kaur and his cousin. The stall was buzzing with executives when we dropped in at lunchtime on a weekday.

We opted for the classic Aloo Paratha (Rs 15), a Lucky Special Paratha (a mix of everything they can get their hands onu00a0-- methi, peas, mooli, gobi for Rs 35) and Mooli Paratha (Rs 25). It's a good idea to order a portion of masaaledar Chole (Rs 30), a bit oily but yummy nevertheless. Weight-watchers can stick to refreshing Boondi Raita and pickle that arrive as accompaniment.

The plump parathas are perfect comfort food on a dreary working day. "A Parsee gentleman has been asking me to introduce Makki Di Roti and Sarson Da Saag. But I'm not sure how may would enjoy these healthy dishes," laughs Gurpreet.u00a0
