Former Mumbai left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh may not be playing against Andhra in the ongoing Ranji Trophy Group 'C' encounter at the Brabourne Stadium, however his presence in the Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) dressing room have helped his teammate Aamir Aziz to take his first five wicket haul on the Day Three on Saturday.

Also a left-arm spinner, Aziz's career best 5 for 62 and off-spinner Parvez Rasool's three wickets helped J&K restrict Andhra to 255 and in the process take a first innings lead of 79 runs.

Aziz felt Harmeet's presence has triggered a healthy competition between them and it will get best out of him. "As he (Harmeet) is also included in the squad, I wanted to give my best and I am happy with today's performance. So I think it's a healthy competition among us will help the team," said 26-year-old Aziz, who took six wickets in as many Ranji matches he played before this game. Last season took Harmeet three wickets in two Ranji Trophy games for Mumbai before shifting to J&K.

Herwadkar hits ton
Meanwhile, Akhil Herwadkar notched up an unbeaten century as Mumbai inched closer to Madhya Pradesh's first innings total by progressing to 290 for five in their Group A Ranji Trophy match here on Saturday.

At stumps on the third and penultimate day of the game, Herwadkar was batting on 136 and giving him company was Tushar Deshpande. Aditya Tare made 80 off 165 balls with the help of 10 boundaries.

Opener Herwadkar, who was batting on 29 overnight, scored his runs off 326 deliveries, and found the fence 19 times. Herwadkar looked more than impressive during his involvement in a partnership of 155 runs for the fifth wicket with Tare, as Mumbai trailed by 155 runs by the end of day's play. In the middle order, Suryakumar Yadav contributed 41 off 90 balls with the help of seven boundaries.

Delhi suffer innings defeat
Gautam Gambhir failed once again on a bowler friendly pitch as Karnataka humiliated Delhi by an innings and 160 runs inside two and half days on Saturday. Starting their second innings with a huge deficit of 324, Delhi who were shot out for 90 in the first innings, were a shade better this time as they folded for 164 — 50 minutes post-lunch to concede the match.
