Defending champions Al-Barkaat MMI's left-arm-spinner Rajesh Sardar took an impressive fifer (5-68) to help the Kurla school bowl out Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) for 210 in 72.1 overs on Day One of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) U-16 Harris Shield Elite Division inter-school boys' final at Azad Maidan yesterday.

Electing to bat, Rizvi lost opener Suraj Pandey for zero in the very second over when Meer Rizvi caught him at silly point off Rajesh. Rizvi lost their second wicket in the form of Yash Salunkhe, who made 29 runs before he was adjudged leg-before off Rajesh.

Al-Barkaat's off-spinner Meer then got into the act, dismissing Harsh Tripathi (32), and the Bandra school were in a spot of bother at 89-3 off 45 overs. Rajesh then returned to dismiss Rizvi skipper and dangerman Shoaib Siddique for just 20 and Shubham Verma for 33 reducing the Bandra school to 148-5. Rajesh also accounted for the wicket of Aakash Yadav (5) and soon, the Bandra boys were all out for 210.

In reply, Al-Barkaat were 28-1 off 10 overs at stumps with Faiz Rathod (10) run out. Rajesh said coach Aashish Gupta's advice worked for him.

"Playing against Rizvi is never easy, but at the same time, if you do well, it gives you a lot of confidence. Since we were playing at Sassanian, Aashish sir told me to bowl a bit slow, so that I could extract some bounce. I followed his advice and got five wickets. Having bowled them out, now we need to bat cautiously as they are capable of making a comeback tomorrow," said 15-year-old Rajesh.

Rizvi skipper Shoaib hopes his bowlers deliver today: "We didn't bat the way we should have, but I hope our bowlers can dismiss Al-Barkaat before they take a first innings lead."

Brief Scores: Rizvi Springfield 210 in 72.1 overs (Shubham Verma 33, Harsh Tripathi 32, Yashasvi Jaiswal 32; Rajesh Sardar 5-68) vs Al-Barkaat MMI (Kurla) 28-1 in 10 overs
