Harris Shield: Rizvi Springfield bat like champions in final

Defending champions Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) slammed 295 for eight on Day One of the MSSA-organised Harris Shield Elite group league match against Swami Vivekanand International School (Borivli) at Dadkar Maidan in Matunga yesterday.


Leading the way for the Rizvi batsmen were southpaw Ayaz Khan, who scored 68 off 86 balls with 11 fours. Yash Salunkhe scored 68 as well but he took 148 balls for his knock which was spiced with eight boundaries. Alsaad Shaikh (64) and Yash put on 133 runs for the second wicket after they lost Abhinav Kushwaha (9) with just 15 on the board.


However, Vivekanand were up to the task with the ball. Off-spinner Yash Jathar bagged a fifer. He claimed three of his five wickets before tea and bagged the last two wickets 15 minutes before close of play to restrict Rizvi in a way. Medium pacer Suved Parkar was the other successful bowler with two for 58 from 26 overs.

Aadarsh's 111 in 88 balls
Aadarsh Patil's stroke-filled 111 helped Shardashram Vidyamandir's (English) post 288 for eight against IES New English School Bandra at Wilson College Gymkhana. Patil's knock came off just 88 balls and was studded with 13 fours and eight sixes. Harshal Kharade was the other notable contributor for Shardashram with 57. For IES New English School, 13-year-old left-arm spinner Shubham Kharat picked up five wickets, giving away 60 runs.

Sumeir, Krish pick 8 wkts
Medium pacer Sumeir Zaveri (4-41) and left-arm spinner Krish Shah (4-37) helped Cathedral and John Connon bowl out IES Modern English School (Dadar) for a paltry 113 in 43.5 overs at Parsee Gymkhana. At stumps, Cathedral and John Connon were trailing by just one run after Sumeir's unbeaten 43 and Shreyas Saraf's 37 helped them reach 112 for four.

Pranav shines
Riding on Pranav Sanil's 55 Swami Vivekanand International School (Kandivli) posted a modest 234 in the first innings against Al- Barkaat MMI English School at Islam Gymkhana. Rohit Shinde (44) and Sai Naidu (43) were the other notable scorers for Vivekanand while Nabijaan Ansari (3-85) and Ibrahim Khan (2-42) were the pick of the bowlers for Al-Barkaat. At the close, Al-Barkaat were 67-2 after Vivekanand's Bharat Yadav and Sai Naidu picked a wicket each.

Ayush, Aryan thrive
Ayush Sharma (3-30) and Aryan Sen (3-31) picked six wickets between them to help Hansraj Morarji Public School (Andheri) reduce Lilavatibai Poddar High School (Santacruz) to 93-6 at Oval Maidan. Earlier, Abhinav Chaudhary (4-31) and Abbas Karachiwala (4-67) bowled beautifully to shoot Hansraj Morarji Public School (Andheri) out for a paltry 141. Yashodham Das picked two wickets, giving away 23 runs. Only Mitesh Pendarkar showed some resistance by scoring 30.

Vidyamandir on top
Shreyas Phatak's 63 helped Balmohan Vidyamandir (Marathi) post 138 for two against Don Bosco High School (Matunga) at Elphinstone Ground, Oval Maidan. Earlier, Atharva Chavan picked up five wickets for 42 as Balmohan Vidyamandir restricted Don Bosco to 159 in the first innings.
