Yuva Sena will put up posters asking for Sanjay Deshmukh’s whereabouts, as they claim they have been trying to meet him for past three months in vain; VC denies allegations

Have you seen the Mumbai University's Vice Chancellor?

Aapan yanna pahilat ka? (Have you seen this person?). Posters reminiscent of this ‘80s TV show about missing people will adorn Mumbai University’s Fort campus today, asking about the vice chancellor. The Shiv Sena’s youth wing is doing this because they allege that for past three months, members have been trying to get an appointment with the VC regarding students’ issues, but he doesn’t meet them. Other political student wings are saying the same, but VC Sanjay Deshmukh refuted the claims.

According to Pradeep Sawant, Mumbai University’s Senate member and senior Yuva Sena leader, they have planned a protest on Tuesday and will put up the posters at the Fort campus.

“We have been trying to meet the Vice-Chancellor to discuss various issues, and have sought his appointment. However, in the past three months we haven’t got an appointment,” said Sawant.

Sawant is not alone, other unions including Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, is facing the same problem. Rohit Chandode, secretary of the ABVP, said, “We had protested earlier as the VC was not meeting any students’ union representatives.

We had to talk to him about the examination issues that the students are facing but we didn’t get any time.”

According to Sawant, they had given a letter to the VC’s office around a week ago seeking an appointment. “Not just orally, we even had sought appointment from the VC in writing but have failed to get it. Hence,
on Tuesday, we will be protesting at the university’s campus and will put up the posters all over,” said Sawant.

VC speak
“The information is not based on facts and it’s wrong,” said VC Deshmukh.

The official spokesperson of the university said, “The VC has met around 5,000 people since he joined and has also given adequate time to the students’ unions too. It will be wrong to say that he hasn’t met students’ union representatives. Many issues get resolved at the registrar level, but still the VC meets individuals who seek appointment.”
