Health: 5 steps to maintain your hair this monsoon

Aloe vera gel
Aloe vera is considered to be a miracle plant when it comes to all-natural hair and skin care. Aloe vera can be used to treat dandruff, split ends and hair loss problems, especially in monsoon when your scalp can become very dry and itchy. Says celebrity hairstylist Asgar Saboo, Massaging aloe vera gel into the scalp restores the pH balance, reduces hair bacteria, relieves scalp itching, promotes hair growth and eliminates dandruff." Tip: Leave on overnight once a week for a fuller, thicker head of hair.

Oil and hydrate
A miracle treatment is to give a hot oil massage to your hair every weekend or twice a week, as the scalp turns itchy and flaky in the rain. A quick and natural oil massage followed by a hair wash results in soft, manageable hair. Suggests Saboo, "Alternatively, if you do not like oil masks, you can also opt for hair masks and other treatments to nourish your brittle hair."
Tip: Use very little hot oil, as this is better for your hair in the long run as you won’t have difficulty rinsing the oil out while still gaining the same soft results. Massage it in with the tips of your fingers and use a mild shampoo to rinse.

Don’t comb wet hair
When hair is wet it is weak and vulnerable to breaking. To combat this, gently air dry hair and comb it with a wide-toothed comb after your hair is completely dry.
Tip: Avoid using heated appliances, as they make your hair even more dry and rough during the monsoon season. Another bonus to using cold water and a cold blow dry is that it adds extra shine. Don’t use excessive amounts of hair product using too many styling products like gel and mousse causes product build-up and will become embedded in the hair causing clumps. Avoid excessive usage and ensure that you are washing your hair well.
Tip: Opt for gentle hair care products that are free from parabens and sulphates to avoid further damage to the hair. Tying your hair tight is not advised during the monsoon, as it leads to the trapping of rain water in your hair, which will make the tie hard to pull out causing hair to fall. Try a loose bun, loose hair or loose side pony tail to protect your hair from humidity exposure and tangled mishaps.

Serums
During the monsoon, humidity levels are very high so your hair is guaranteed to frizz. We generally don’t tend to wash our hair every time it gets wet and very often we will simply towel dry hair, which adds to the frizz. Choose a good anti-frizz serum that will keep your hair moisturised without weighing the hair down, whilst the hair is still wet run an anti-frizz serum through with your fingers to lock in moisture giving a healthy shine and keeping frizz at bay.
