Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez is reportedly likely to sue the club's manager Roberto Mancini for defamation of character.

It comes after City fined Tevez four weeks wages - about one million pounds - for what they say were five separate breaches of contract in a Champions League game against Bayern Munich in September.

A club investigation had found the 27-year-old guilty of refusing to play in the match.

According to the BBC, Tevez has been advised that Mancini's post-match comments on the matter could amount to defamation.

The Argentine continues to assert that at no time during the match was he told he was to be brought on to play.

Tevez has 14 days to appeal the club's decision.
