Dehradun: Heavy rains have been predicted for Uttarakhand in the next 24-hours, an official said on Thursday. The hill state which has been receiving rains in the past two days has been warned of moderate to very heavy rainfall over the next two days.

An alert has been issued for the five 'high altitude' districts and the administration has been asked to take precautionary measures. Director of the State Met Department Vikram Singh said that a 'low pressure line' between the Bay of Bengal and Punjab is triggering the rains and the western disturbance is likely to continue for the next 24-hours.

The districts which are predicted to receive heavy rainfall are Nainital, Uttarkashi, Tihri, Champawat and Pithoragarh. On Wednesday, Gairsain received maximum rainfall of 31mm, followed by Nainital (30.5mm), Pithoragarh (30mm) and Mukteshwar (27.7mm).
