The arrested accused had come to sell the weapons to Kondhwa resident Avnish Rubabsingh Tomar (25). Tomar hails from Etawah in Uttar Pradesh.
API Sunil Thopate said, “Our havaldar, Mahadev Dimble, received a tip-off that two people would be visiting the area to sell firearms. We laid a trap near Khadi and waited for them.”
Thopate said soon after the trap was laid, both the suspects arrived. An informant who had accompanied the team identified them and signalled the officials.
“We intercepted them and checked their bags, and recovered three pistols, two country-made revolvers and 12 live cartridges,” Thopate said.
During interrogation, the duo revealed that Tomar had placed an order for the weapons so that he could sell it to prospective buyers in the city. They also said that a person named Ghume was Tomar’s local connection in Kondhwa.
“He (Tomar) has been living in the city and working as a plumber. But it seems that he was involved in procuring illegal firearms from UP,” Thopate said.
All three accused were booked under the relevant sections of the IPC and the Arms Act.
