Mumbai double murder: Court denies police nod for narco test on Chintan

A court yesterday denied police the permission to conduct a narco-analysis test on artist Chintan Upadhyay, arrested in connection with the murders of his estranged wife Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Harish Bhambhani, after he refused to give his consent for the procedure.

“The court has rejected the narco-analysis test application filed by police after Chintan refused to give consent for it. We have given detailed reasons for why Chintan was refusing the test,” said his lawyer Nitin Pradhan.

Chintan is accused of conspiring to kill noted installation artist Hema, as well as Bhambhani. He was arrested on December 22, ten days after the bodies of the duo were found in a sewer in Kandivli, stuffed in cardboard boxes and wrapped in plastic sheets.

Police have also arrested Pradip Rajbhar, Vijay Rajbhar, Shivkumar Rajbhar and a minor accused, all accomplices of prime accused Vidyadhar Rajbhar, who is still on the run.

The judicial custody of all the accused will end on January 11.
