Here's why Salman Khan is controversy's favourite child

Salman Khan

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is always in the news, but many times it's for all the wrong reasons. Over the years he has developed a reputation of being controversy's favourite child in the industry. He reiterated that image on Tuesday after stoking another row with his statement that he "felt like a raped woman" during Sultan’s shooting.

This statement raised a public and media storm with commoners and authorities both upset. The National Commission for Women (NCW) demanded an apology within seven days from the Bollywood superstar.

The 50-year-old star, who made the comments during an interview with an entertainment website to promote his latest film 'Sultan', said, "When I used to walk out of the ring, after the shoot, I used to feel like a raped woman. I couldn’t walk straight."

But this is not the first time Salman has been in the eye of a storm. Here are some other instances when Bollywood's 'bad boy' has sparked outrage with his behaviour or comments.

Salman Khan in 2002 hit-and-run case

An allegedly drunk Salman Khan reportedly rammed his car into the American Express Cleaners at Bandra, running over four people and killing one in the process. His bodyguard, Ravindra Patil, had said at the time, "I can't drive, it was Salman." Salman's lawyers claim he was neither driving nor drunk. The homicide charges against Salman were dropped after Ravindra died in 2007. On December 2013, the court ordered a fresh trial on the ground that witnesses had not been examined in the context of aggravated charge of culpable homicide, which was invoked against Salman midway through the case. On December 10, 2015, Salman was acquitted of all charges in connection with the case.
