Bangalore's Chris Gayle just batted us out of the game, says KKR's losing captain Gambhir

Chris Gayle made a telling debut in Indian Premier League Season-4 and upset the applecart of his former side Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), powering Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)u00a0 to a thumping nine-wicket victory here at Eden Gardens yesterday.

Gayle's unbeaten 102-run whirlwind off just 55 balls meant RCB chased down a stiff target of 172 with 11 balls to spare.

"I never picked the bat after the World Cup. It feels wonderful to start off with a bang," the charismatic Jamaican toldu00a0 MiD DAY. "It's good to be here, back in the IPL. It feels good to contribute in my debut for Bangalore," added Gayle.

Gayle joined Daniel Vettori's side just 48 hours before the game. "Tough luck to KKR, my former team. But, I am sure Kolkata people like my sixes," signed off Gayle.

KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir admitted that there was little a side can do when somebody plays a knock like Gayle. "Chris just batted us out of the game," rued Gambhir. "Had we picked up a couple of early wickets, things could have been different.

But both Dilshan and Chris gave them a great start and you could do little against them," added Gambhir after his side suffered a second consecutive loss, after three back-to-back wins. Meanwhile, KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan said: "Gayle made the difference. I don't look at this as revenge (since Gayle was in his team for the first three seasons). In sport, there is no revenge. Whoever plays for a franchise wants to give his best."
