Hillary salutes Taj heroes

'I feel your pain," said US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Saturday morning when she met Chef Nitin Minocha, who was shot on his hand by the terrorists who stormed the Taj hotel. There was no mistaking the solemnity with which she greeted 10 staffers from the Taj and five from the Oberoi as she paid tribute to the 26/11 victims at the Taj lobby.

Minocha, a sous chef, shepherded nearly two hundred diners at the Golden Dragon restaurant into private club rooms and called the Chambers to keep them safe when the terrorists stormed the hotel in November last year.

There, Minocha, along with other members of the kitchen, kept the terrified guests calm by continuing to cook and serve them food. Two bullet wounds to his hand didn't stop this chef, who continued to look out for the best interests of guests, despite the excruciating pain he was in.

The chef, who was still wearing a bandage on his arm, moved to greet Secretary Clinton who then asked about his hand. "She then told him that she found it hard to shake with her left hand too since she had suffered an injury to her elbow," said a source. "She then moved on to greet others and write in the tribute book".

Clinton's visit tracked on Facebook, Twitter
In keeping with the Secretary's connect with new media, updates on Clinton's visit were uploaded on the American government's Twitter page as well as on Facebook and Flickr. Among the videos uploaded was the rendition of 'Hum Honge Kaamyaab' in Gujarati by artisans at the SEWA center on Napean Sea Road.
