The mercy petition made by Qasab had been sent to the ministry after the Supreme Court upheld his death sentence. A recommendation to reject the mercy petition has been forwarded to the President. It’s now up to the President to take the final call, said a home ministry spokesperson.

Qasab was one of 10 Pakistanis who sailed into India from Pakistan and landed at Mumbai to launch the Nov 26 mayhem. The Supreme Court had on August 29 confirmed the death sentence, awarded to Qasab for waging war against India, in which 166 persons were killed, including many foreigners. u00a0
