A group of four persons has been booked for cheating a housewife of Rs 8.5 lakh after promising her brother a seat in a reputed engineering college.

Rajeev, who posed as an educational consultant, promised her that he would get her brother, Dikshit Swetam a seat in the electronics and communications engineering at MS Ramaiah Engineering College under the NRI quota.

Posing as an educational consultant, Rajeev visited her house and promised to get Dikshit, Electronic and Communication seat at MS Ramaiah Engineering College under NRI quota. He later took Rs 1.25 lakh and a set of certificates with an assurance to get the work done within few days.

On Monday, Rajeev called Akanksha to meet him at Hotel Empire on Church Street along with the money. Excited about the job, Akanksha met Rajeev at the hotel who introduced Shailesh Singh, Niranjan Bharati and Sanjay Misra as his business partners.

Moreover, the seat was obtained under management quota and not in NRI quota as they had promised. This would mean that Dikshit would have to shell out more money if he gets the admission.

Akanksha immediately called up Rajeev asking him to cancel the seat and return the money as they did not wantu00a0 biotech course. "That was the last time that Rajeev received the call.

After that, he was always out of reach," Akanksha said. She rushed to MSRIT to check the status where the management informed her that Dikshit had been admitted to the biotech course, and only Rs 1.25 lakh was paid.

The Cubbon Park police who have taken up a cheating case are looking for the gang. "We suspect that the gang has cheated many others. We will get the details after they are apprehended," said an officer.
