New Delhi: The sporting fraternity, including cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra, yesterday welcomed Nita Ambani’s nomination to the International Olympic Committee and looked forward to “betterment and development” of Indian sport.

Billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s wife Nita has been nominated for membership in the IOC and will become the first Indian woman to be on the apex sporting body if she is elected at the (August 2 to 4) IOC Session. Beijing Games gold medallist Bindra was quick to welcome the development. “Congratulations to Mrs Nita Ambani for her nomination to the IOC In ‘recognition of passionate work in education and sports’ Really look forward to her passionate involvement in the betterment and development of Indian Olympic Sport!” In a lighter vein, he added: “Mrs Nita Ambani to be an IOC member from India?
