Don't expect the American diner experience at Wild Wild West, and you won't be disappointed. World fusion at its confusing best does the trick

This writer is a self-confessed sucker for true-blue American styled cuisine, and its charming diner culture. Many lonely nights as a student in the United States were spent admiring the murals covering the walls and lunch boxes of a bygone decade, finding shelf-space, and the bohemian neon lights, transporting one to a new time and space. Not to mention, the massive burgers, crispy home-style fries, and thick milkshakes that reigned supreme. So, when one heard about Wild Wild West, there was enough excitement that anu00a0 American-styled restaurant was gracing Andheri, finally.

As soon as we stepped into Wild Wild West, we realised that the "American"dream had already been crushed. When the menu arrived, we couldn't spot the familiar all-day breakfast that should have featured a variety of omelettes, sandwiches, farm-fresh eggs (any style), pancakes, Belgian waffles and French toast. No beef burgers, home-style fries, or milkshakes -- all of it was missing. But if you were to ignore the American-style promise, fortunately, that was the only regret during our time at the restaurant.

There was interesting seating in the restaurant -- causal, yet nifty. The art of casual dining was bang on. A bar counter with an '80s glow of coloured lights called out to you. The menu was a cross of Italian and what one can categorise as world fusion cuisine with a mix of this-and-that.

Our mocktail, the Frozen Feast
(Rs 220) was a perfect mix of Pineapple Banana and Blended Lime. Chilled to perfection and quite the unique taste. It set the mood for a scrumptious evening ahead.

The humongous servings of Garlic Bread (Rs 99) caught our attention, as soon as reached our table. It's enough for three people, given the size of its loaves. While it could have been a tad crispier and well done, it tasted good enough to ignore that little not-so-brown base.

The Lemon Pepper Fish
(Rs 199) was an interesting super deep fried starter. A bunch of shredded fillets marinade in lemon and chopped pepper, come crispy and piping hot to the table. The accompanying tartar sauce added a lovely bite to the flavours of the fish.

Among the mains, the Rosemary Risotto (Rs 399) was a steamy, creamy, white cheese heavy lamb ladle-of-broth risotto. Seasoned with rosemary, this dish possessed a delightful woodsy feel and provides a nice change of taste from the usual Italian suspects.

Finally, the delicious, chef-recommended Cheese Brownie (Rs 129) was a dense and fudge-like brownie covered with delicious layers of cream cheese. Sink your teeth into this one, and enjoy a m ufffdlange of the tanginess of the cream cheese and the deep richness of the chocolate brownie, all at one go.
