A demonstration of theu00a0 FC2, a female condom, caught the eye of MTV's Staying Alive street team at The XVIII International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2010) in Vienna, Austria.

The international AIDS charity Avert notes that the female condom has been available in Europe since 1992, in the US since 1993 and today can be found globally in over 90 nations under various names including: VA w.o.w, Natural Sensation Panty Condom, The Woman's Condom, FC2, Silk Parasol, Reality, Femidom, Dominique, Femy, Myfemy, Protectiv and Care.

Also PATH, a global public health INGO, is working with women from developing nations to create the PATH's woman's condom as they have found "women wanted a number of things that they weren't getting. They wanted a female condom that was easier to insert, use, and remove; that was more stable, so they didn't have to worry that it would be dislodged or move out of place during use; that was more comfortable for both partners (in particular, less noisy); that interfered less with sensation."u00a0

According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), "In 2005, nearly two thirds of all female condoms were used in Africa, while the next largest shares went to North America and Europe. Asia accounted for less than 1% of the global total in 2005, though figures for later years may be higher due to growth in India."
