Husband held after dentist commits suicide

Family of deceased, Tina Gogna, who allegedly killed herself, has lodged a complaint against her husband and in-laws for torturing her for bringing insufficient dowry; relatives also suspect the 25-year-old was murdered

The husband of a dentist, Tina Gogna (25), who allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday, has been arrested after a case of dowry death was registered by the police on the complaint of the victim's family. Tina's family members asserted that it is possible that she was murdered and did not commit suicide, because her husband's family allegedly tortured her for bringing insufficient dowry.

Usual suspect
The accused has been identified as Karan Gogna, who operates a business of wigs and salons. The police have registered a case of dowry death and abetment of suicide under Sections 304-B and 306. A Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) inquiry was conducted on the case following a complaint filed by Narendra Dutt, Tina's father. Preliminary investigations revealed that Tina and her husband had verbal brawls on a regular basis. Sources said that before her suicide, she had a heated argument with her husband. Narendra claimed that his daughter was being tortured by her in-laws and husband for bringing little dowry. The victim's father also said that he had spoken to her three hours before the incident.

Flashback
Tina and Karan got married in February this year. She allegedly committed suicide at her residence in Greater Kailash-I (GK) at about 2.30 pm on Wednesday. Her body was found hanging by a dupatta from a ceiling fan. She was taken to AIIMS hospital, where she was declared brought dead. The body's post-mortem was also conducted there, said the police.
