While builder Amar Bhatia’s family claims that his death is not a suicide, his uncle Rajkumar Bhatia has revealed that Amar had sent him a message saying “I am committing suicide. Take care of my wife and child” on Saturday night.

He had also updated his status on social networking website Facebook on December 12 last year that said “Zindagi mazdoor hoti ja rahi hai, aur log seth bol kar tana marte hain” which suggests that he could have been depressed.

Amar Bhatia (40), an Ulhasnagar-based builder, who used to live with his wife and 13-year-old son Ronit at Priya Apartment in front of Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, was found dead on railway tracks between Ambarnath and Badlapur in the wee hours on Sunday. Though the cops suspect that Amar committed suicide, his close relatives denied it.

“After attending a wedding on Saturday night, he came back home around 8pm. As he had to go to another function with his family, he told his wife that he will return in sometime but didn’t. He was last seen online on a messaging application at 10:46pm on Saturday,” said a close relative on condition of anonymity.

A motorman of Duronto Express informed Kalyan government railway police about Bhatia’s accident. “The motorman informed us about the accident around 1 am on Sunday. We are trying to find which train hit him,” said Rupali Ambure, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Government Railway Police, Central Division.

Amar was one of the directors of Mohan Group that had infrastructural projects across Kalyan, Ulhasnagar, Ambarnath, Badlapur, Pune and Goa. Sources from the building company said they were going to expand their project towards Thakurli and Dombivli also.

“We found his car at a distance of 500 meters from the spot and his mobile phone too. We also found that he had sent a message to his uncle Rajkumar Bhatia at 10:30pm on Saturday night stating ‘I am committing suicide. Take care of my wife and child.’ We are checking the authenticity of the message,” added Ambure.

Bhatia’s friends said he was a motivating person and didn’t have any financial crisis.

“He wasn’t facing any kind of financial crisis since he bought a Harley Davidson motorcycle a few days ago,” said Ram Wadhwa, a close friend and one of his professional associates.

But one of his close associates, on condition of anonymity, said, “He was once harassed by a government official regarding his work and he had also complained about it to government agencies, but nothing happened.”

Wadhwa further added that a week ago a few people had come to clean another flat Amar owns in Mohan Heights in Khadakpada that is next to where Wadhwa stays. When asked, those people said Bhatia had sent them there since he planned to shift there.

His family members even claimed that the message his uncle received can be a fake. A Rane, senior police inspector, Kalyan Government Railway Police, said, “We have registered an accidental case and the post mortem report said he had multiple injuries on his body. Also we are awaiting the forensic report.”
