However, former England junior footballer Michael Chopra says he will look to stay back in the country and play in the nation’s premier football league — the I-League.

“My first call was the ISL, I shall finish that and then I want to play in the I-League. I would like to give something back to the country from where my dad hails,” said Chopra, whose father is a Punjab native.

While the Kerala Blasters player revealed that he has not yet been contacted by any I-League franchise, he said it was his dream to represent the national side.

The striker is even ready to give up England citizenship if called for the national side.

“I am ready to play in India, but am yet to get a call from any I-League team.

“I shall go home for Christmas for a week and come back to India.

“That is my dream: to play at the highest level for the national side, and that too in my father’s country,” said Chopra, who is on his first visit to India.

The 30-year-old, who rose to fame for being the first player of Indian parentage to play and score in the English Premier League, has currently been ruled out of action for the next few matches after injuring his right ankle during a training session, ahead of his team’s match against Atletico de Kolkata.
